Maria's Guide to Doing Stuff đŸŒžđŸ§¶

Updated: May 3

Well good morning lovely people! It is May 2nd 2024. Wow, can you believe we only have 28 days of school left? My last few days as a Freshman and I will be moving on in high school. It’s scary how fast it is going right? Anyway, this past week has been slow. Slow. Like the slowest sloth out on the earth. So slow that I cut my bangs again for fun. My crazy activities like the musical and having rehearsals everyday are sadly over (I will write a blog of how the musical went, don't worry!). But now what do I do? I legit have nothing to do anymore, no extracurricular activities like piano, theater, etc. I haven’t had anything these two weeks and after Monday I won’t ever have piano again. I guess you could say I am sad about that since piano was all I had left of my art side, the only thing that I could get motivated to do at times was piano because I was finally getting better, but that time is closing. I told my boyfriend about this and he told me that from now on he would be my piano teacher, which was cute cause he actually got me to start learning a new song that wasn’t just a song to sing along with, it was a real song. But that day (yesterday) I layed in my room feeling rot like I have this whole week (I am sick with nothing to do) and I thought what should I do with my life now? So I made a list of things I could do with my life so I don’t go down a rabbit hole and so I keep going with the things that make my heart happy. (The last one is a little silly)

This list can look very different for everyone else, especially since everyone has different interest so people might want to do different activities. I just want to show how this can be very normal in life and that everyone has those days or weeks where your life has taken a pause and you feel lazy and not motivated but it’s okay! I definitely encourage everyone who sometimes feels like this to make their own lists and goals. Always remember you are in control of your life and mindset!

  1. Become a vocal prodigy- I don’t know if that even is a word but for me it is. One thing that I have always wanted to do was get better at my singing, and now I have all the time in the world to finally set a time during the day for myself to do any kind of vocal exercises to help my voice improve. I have also done a lot of research on techniques for stronger vocals and to be able to sing my high notes. There are a lot of secrets when it comes to singing and I want to figure all of them out for myself!

  2. Play more tennis with my dad- Okay I admit it, I love playing tennis, not only that I am also good at it, I can go three years without playing and the day I set foot on that court and hold a racquet it's as if I had just played the day before. To me tennis is my “stress free, doing it for fun and exercise” kind of thing. Not only do I want to play more but I also want to start spending more time with my dad since we haven’t gone out just the two of us like we used to. But now we can connect by doing the activity that we both love doing for fun!

  3. Write songs- Songwriting is something I always do whenever I feel a strong feeling. I go to my piano and start improvising a song with lyrics about how I feel or what I am thinking about, but they always are half done and they stay in my voice recordings and I forget that I have a good jam going down in my files. So I will commit to finishing each song that I write AND also record them in my at home recording studio (the microphone that is set up in my room). I have also found these lists of prompts that give people ideas of what to write for songs or poems so I might do those little 30 day prompts and write a song each day on a specific topic.

  4. Learn as many piano songs as possible- Yes I know I won’t have piano lessons anymore but that doesn’t mean I am going to fully stop playing the piano, I can still learn any song that I am in the mood to learn. I can learn easy songs or complex songs
or even a song that I can sing along to! There are many songs that are on my list and I can’t wait to start learning them especially since I can learn them at my own pace.

  5. Keep making arts and crafts (aka make slime)-Ever since I was little my mom had always found me doing some kind of arts and crafts whether it was making bowls and bowls of slime in different colors, or making a notebook that talks by sticking my ipod inside of it (My inspiration was the show PROJECT MC2), or even creating my own Wreck this Journal. Yes, I have created many things and I will keep doing so. Now there are more artsy things that I can do like sew a dress or crochet a top ... .and yes I will still be making slime. There are so many opportunities to make so many things! I’m serious, there's origami, the ability to paint on anything, jewelry that can be made, ANYTHING that comes to my mind or that I see on pinterest I will make because I want to have fun and fill my room with art.

  6. Keep count of what national day it is- Each day there is always a reason to celebrate. I saw this reel on instagram and it was this girl eating a cake saying “Why did we make eating cake only for celebrations” and I completely agree. Cake should be an everyday thing even if there's nothing to celebrate. This relates back to celebrating anything in the world because why wait for big celebrations when there is always a reason to celebrate something no matter what it is or how small it is. By the way it is national eat TUNA day today AND national play your UKULELE day.

I am actually pretty happy about my list and I genuinely think that I will improve a lot in the areas I talked about (singing, tennis, piano). Life has a lot of bumps and sometimes there will be those days where you do absolutely nothing, like seriously nothing. Life is like that sometimes and the only reason your life can stay like that is if you let yourself go down that rabbit hole, but doing small things even just by getting up from your phone and finishing your homework or even just getting up and making yourself a good snack helps a lot. I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend! I love you lots

Bye Bye

XoXo, Maria E.V
